Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.
The required textbook for this course for the current semester will be the OpenStax Psychology textbook available for free reading online and for free download as a pdf document. Required Assignment, Quiz and Required Exam content will come from this textbook. Lecture notes have been available in the past. I am in the process of developing new lecture notes. The new notes are not available at this time. GRADING POLICY: Your final course letter grade will be based on a percentage of 1000 total required points as follows: Letter Grades Point Totals Approximate Percentages A 900 - 1000 90%+ B 800 - 899 80-89% C 700 - 799 70-79% D 600 - 699 60-69% F 599 and below 59% and below ALL EXAM, QUIZ,ASSIGNMENT AND PROJECT SCORES WILL BE USED IN CALCULATING YOUR COURSE GRADE. NO COURSE ACTIVITY SCORES OR GRADES WILL BE DROPPED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PRACTICE ACTIVITIES WHICH WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN CALCULATING YOUR COURSE GRADE. If you want to discuss your grades, you should send an email request. OTHER INSTRUCTOR POLICIES 1. There are activities in this course which require using the Blackboard website for the course. 2. You will be completing all required and bonus exams and quizzes online and recording your responses on an online test form, which you will access using the Blackboard website for your course. 3. All exam, quiz, assignment and project scores will be used in calculating your course grade. No course activity scores or grades will be dropped with the exception of practice activities which will not be included in calculating your final course grade. 5. Late work will receive a score of 1 point. Exceptions to this policy will be handled at the instructor's discretion. 6. All work turned in for credit must be typed using correct grammar and spelling, using complete sentences. 7. Work not following directions provided for each assignment will not be graded and will receive a zero. 8. This course will require turning in all work using the Blackboard course website 9. Plagiarism, written or oral, will result minimally in failure of the assignment (1st offense) and failure of the course (2nd offense). 10. All work turned in for credit must include a complete heading, including student's first and last names, course name (PSYC), course number, course section number and date the work was completed. 11. Instructor requires that all written assignments be typed. 12. Attendance or participation in class activity is expected daily and punctual. 13. The instructor expects that students will display mature behavior in online activities. This includes being responsible for your actions and treating your classmates, instructor and yourself with respect at all times. Failure to do so may result in your removal from the classroom or the course. 14. Instructor requires all written assignments be typed. 15. Students should spend a minimum of 3-6 hours per week on this course's assignments. 16. Plagiarism in this class will not be tolerated. Any assignment submitted that contains plagiarism will earn an automatic zero. Further action may be taken as determined by the instructor. 17. Each assignment and course activity in this class has a due date and due time; late assignments will receive a score of 1 point. Exceptions to this policy are discussed below. 18. Consult with instructor for Additional Course Policies. 19. I will not discuss your grades over the phone. If you want to discuss your grades, you request this information using email. 20. The instructor will deal with non-compliance of items 1-19 and other situations which may arise on a case by case basis. 21. Students may expect written assignments and projects to be graded within 48 hours AFTER THE DUE DATE for each assignment or project. 22. Instructor will not accept resubmissions or corrected assignment documents. 23. The following materials are officially PROHIBITED in the classroom meetings for this course: food, drink, and tobacco. This policy agrees with official college policy. 24. Late assignments will receive 1 point credit. Lost points resulting from turning in late work may be partially compensated by completing as many bonus and required assignments on time as possible. 25. All assignments must be typed, saved and submitted as attachments to specific and correct submission pages in Blackboard. 26. All assignments must be saved and submitted using Microsoft Office Word application as doc or docx file format files. 27. Instructor will not discuss grades over the phone or in class or in the presence of other students. 28. Instructor will not be accepting resubmitted documents or corrected assignment documents. 29. All required and bonus quizzes and exams will be completed online using the Blackboard learning management system. 30. Any document submitted using the pages file format will receive a score of zero points, as the instructor cannot open or read these documents. 31. Some assignments required inserting small pictures into those documents. Students are required to know and practice the skill of copying and pasting visual images into assignment documents. 32. Students are required to know and practice the skill of creating and sending email messages. All email messages sent by students should be sent using the course email tool for the respective courses that the email messages pertain to. 33. All email messages sent to the instructor must contain an appropriate email message subject. 34. The subject field for all email messages sent to the instructor must contain the specific course name, course number and section number that the email message pertains to. 33. The instructor expects that students will use correct spelling and grammar in all email messages and written assignments. Failure to use correct spelling and grammar in any course-related document will result in point-credit(s) deductions. 34. Submitting a document early in Blackboard so that the instructor can open and read or review that document does not justify submitting a corrected version of the same document at a later time. 35. The instructor created the psychology core assignment drafts 1,2 and 3 as well as the final version core assignment to be submitted as a series of 3 drafts and a final version so that section errors in the drafts can be corrected in the final version, based on feedback given on the earlier drafts. 36. If a document does not have a draft version, documents submitted and graded by the instructor retain the grades the instructor assigns to them. 37. Students should use their LSCPA email account to send messages to the instructor. 38. All written assignments should be saved and submitted using the following file formats: doc or docx. 39. There will be a 1-point deduction if students fail to use the doc or docx file format when submitting assignments. 40. All assignment documents must be attached to their respective correct submission pages. There will be a 1-point deduction when document is not attached to specific correct submission page. 41. Required to save all written assignments in file format doc or docx. 42. Remember that minimum late penalty date (1 point per late assignment) is Sunday before week of final exam availability. After this date, maximum late penalty applies, which is that any late assignment receives 1-point credit only. 43. If you miss an exam or quiz, you must request an extension of the original availability period within 48 hours of the ending time of the exam or quiz availability. For example, if the original availability period ends at 11:59 pm on a Friday, you must request the extension by 11:59 pm on the following Sunday. 44. Additional instructor policies may be added at a later time for clarity and ease of understanding. 45. Any student requesting a disability-related accommodation such as additional online testing time is required to arrange such accommodations through the Office of Disability Services and the Disability Services Coordinator. Participation will help you succeed in this course. CAUTION: I will not automatically drop your name from the class roll because you do not participate in class activities. MAKEUP WORK: Makeup work may be completed by students who miss class because of official college activities.
